Winter cometh

Just wanted to share the beauty of my blueberry even as winter sets in.  The frost covering the soil is simply gorgeous.

Though the bucket for catching rain water has frozen solid! (I am planning to get a water butt next year).  The half brick is to weigh it down because its very windy in my area, and its full of leaves.

And finally my fruit bushes all together (nearly,  there's a few elsewhere due to space).  I am hoping to transplant some to the ground maybe next Autumn when they're a bit bigger and I have had time to clear and prepare the area.

  1. Blueberry bushes could be grown for their autumn colour alone.

    1. Too true!! Luckily they also give us delicious fruits! I'm hoping I'll get some fruiting next year, as this was my first year with the blueberry.

  2. My blueberries have lost their leaves now, but the autumn colour is stunning.

    1. Yes, definitely a positive note to come out of my cherry cola addiction. I looked inside the blueberry one the other day though, and it was frozen at the bottom! At least as it melts in the sun it will water the roots right away. So far it seems to be going well, as I haven't tried this method before.

  4. I have to pass on the advice that somebody else gave me regarding Blueberries which is to grow at least two different kinds of Blueberry for a much bigger and longer harvest. I couldn't believe the difference it made. Great Blog by the way.

    1. Thanks Chris! Yes, I do have two varieties already for that very reason. I'm not sure they will be mature enough for fruiting this year, but I'm also interested to see the differences in the two varieties.
